How to develop AR solutions?
The most important parts of the AR applications are virtual contents. It is important to prepare use case specific virtual contents, which could be 2D images, videos, animations, 3D models, texts, for directing users and reducing user errors and hence having high quality user experience. AR applications are mostly developed by using game engines such as Unity3D and Unreal engine. The virtual contents that are produced by modelling tools are integrated to the end product by using these game engines.

Different techniques are used for different use cases when developing AR solutions. It is important to place virtual contents corretly onto the real world objects. In order to achieve this, a reference point in real world needs to be constructed. This process could be done by using one of the following techniques; marker tracking, object recognition or surface detection.

AR marker approach

Markers are specific images that contain high amount of feature points. These images are printed and attached to the real objects on which the virtual contents are to be displayed. The user directs the device’s camera to the markers and once the application recognizes the marker, the virtual content attached to the marker gets displayed.

AR object recognition

In this approach, real world objects are modelled in 3D and stored in the application. Once the user directs the device’s camera to that object, the application tries to recognize the shape of the object and after that displays the virtual content attached to the object.

AR surface detection

Surface detection approach is the most recent developed technique by Apple and Google. The application tries to detects plane surfaces like ground, tables and after detecting user can place any virtual object on top the detected surface.

AR in Turkey

Although there are many AR applications developed in the world, it has not been attracted enough awareness in Turkey. Our company has enough know-how in AR technology to carry our country to its deserved place.
